Renata Cooper Founder & CEO of Forming Circles, a social and ethical investment company, joins the advisory board of Stand 3ft Back showing her commitment to assist launch Good360 Australia. A visionary entrepreneur, Renata is committed to turning ideas into reality. It is not a surprise then, when asked to assist in establishing Good360 in Australia, Renata was the first to provide financial assistance.

Renata Cooper founded Forming Circles, in 2011 with a desire to inspire change in the way we do business through the power of giving.  Forming Circles pioneers change in Australia through community engagement; education, mentorship and grants for small business; and as an advocate of education and literacy through Written Portraits an annual writing competition for teenagers.  Committed to empowering people and ideas, through Forming Circles, Renata Cooper has invested in over 70 local and national businesses, individuals and organisations since its inception.

Renata Cooper explains

“The Good360 model has the potential to change the face of giving in Australia. Being pioneering, many traditional sources of funding do not have the vision to see this unique opportunity. It takes equal parts visionary and equal parts driving passion from a dedicated entrepreneur like Alison Covington to make significant change in the world. I greatly admire the project, for the significant change and benefit Good360 Australia will have redistributing excess product to those that need it most whilst avoiding this excess product going to landfill.  This is a win for social good and the environment and that is why I am prepared to back Alison Covington both with financial resources and my commitment as an advisory board member.”

Director of Stand3ftBack, Alison Covington agrees.

“Working with Renata Cooper provided us with the much needed initial funding required to start a charitable model such as this. Funding that had previously been out of reach. On average, Good360 delivers $70 worth of goods for every dollar donated. We are providing a model that is efficient, innovative and doesn’t replicate other services. We are pleased that Renata was quick to recognise that by funding our charitable model it enables all other charities giving greater impact for charitable donations and we welcome the addition of Renata, a respected business leader, to our advisory board to strengthen our ties to the business and charity community

Sefiani Communications Group has added another pro bono client to its roster with the addition of Stand3ftBack, a Sydney firm currently working to launch US-based charity Good360 in Australia.

Sefiani will provide pro bono strategic communications advice to Stand3ftBack and will manage all media around the launch of Good360. In addition, Sefiani Associate Director, Francesca Boase, will join the board of the Australian branch of the charity as a non-executive Director.

Sefiani’s expert team will work in partnership with Alison Covington, Director of Stand3ftBack, to develop and promote product philanthropy in Australia – matching corporate ‘waste’ with charitable need, making a difference to the corporate bottom line while helping charities across the country.

Stand3ftBack is the latest pro bono client to be taken on by the agency, which has a significant record of supporting a range of worthy causes on a pro bono or reduced fee basis. In the 13 years since Sefiani’s inception, not-for-profit organisations supported include Special Olympics Australia, Australia for UNHCR, OneSight, 40K Foundation Australia and Seeing is Believing.

Commenting on the new partnership, Sefiani Associate Director, Francesca Boase, says:

“When we were approached by Alison, we had absolutely no hesitation in saying yes to helping businesses to safely dispose of excess inventory while supporting worthy causes.

“To be involved from the start of such a significant innovation in the charitable and retail sectors is a real opportunity and privilege. We’re looking forward to an enduring partnership.”

Director of Stand3ftBack, Alison Covington, agrees:

“We have a really compelling story to tell, and are certain the Sefiani team has the expertise and commitment to effectively tell it.  I’m personally delighted an agency of such calibre has come on board to support the Stand3ftBack and Good360 concept.”

Corrs Chambers Westgarth have signed on as the exclusive providers of pro bono legal advice to Stand3ftBack and are already working hard to launch Good360 in Australia.

Recognised nationally for their tireless commitment to the broader community, Corrs has a community engagement agenda that is diverse and far-reaching. The firm provides pro bono advice for disadvantaged individuals and groups that might otherwise not have access to legal representation as well as charitable and not-for-profit organisations.

It is not surprise then, that when asked to assist in establishing Good360 in Australia, the firm jumped at the chance. Heidi Roberts, Partner and Pro Bono National Manager, Corrs Chambers Westgarth explains.

“The Good360 model has the potential to change the face of giving in Australia. Unfortunately because it is ground-breaking, the amount of legal resources (and funds) required to set it up are out of reach for most not-for-profits. Aware that this could prevent Stand3ftBack in turning their great idea into a reality, Corrs were keen to help.”

Director of Stand3ftBack, Alison Covington agrees.

“Working with a world class firm like Corrs will provide the much needed legal resources required to provide a charitable model such as this. Resources that would be, out of the reach, financially of a start-up like ours. We are providing a model that is efficient, innovative and doesn’t replicate existing services. Corrs recognized our model is pioneering and will benefit the entire charitable sector and we are grateful to have partners such as them who share our vision.”

Is Product Philanthropy – the new buzz word.

It is an expression, which is getting a lot of buzz around town in the United States and around the globe thanks to Good360  , but in Australia many Australians are still trying to get their tongues around it and Alison Covington – Director, Stand 3ft Back, is on a mission to change that.

Why bring Good360 and Product Philanthropy to Australia? The Good360 operating model essentially takes donations of excess stocks that may otherwise end up as landfill and makes them available to bona fide charities through a controlled web portal, allowing corporations to meet social responsibility goals, doing good for the environment and freeing charities up to concentrate on their core concerns.

Alison Covington says we know Australian companies have big hearts; we have witnessed this during times of disaster. The Good360 charity model will help us co-ordinate these donations not just during disaster but all year round and take it to the next level with an online platform never seen before.  If you consider eBay links those who have to those who want,  Good 360 links those who have to those who need.

Stand 3ft Back, has also entered discussions with In Kind Direct, The Princes Charity in the UK (  ) who works closely with Good360 and function with a similar operating model.

It is HRH Prince Charles’ desire to see In Kind Direct work with Good360 to develop a working model for Australia and other Commonwealth countries.  Covington says with the expertise from Good360 and In Kind Direct, a cutting edge yet simple product philanthropy model will be established by Stand 3ft Back in Australia easing the fund raising burden on Australian charities by making millions of dollars of product philanthropy available to them online, ultimately assisting thousands of underprivileged Australians.

The Good360 operating model does also require funds. To this end, we are seeking funding to establish a management team and fully develop a business plan. Covington is now on the first round of seeking seed funding and invites Australians to join us in the circle of giving, finding a way that they can help us help others.  “It is such a great concept, when I tell my story I am like a magnet, everyone wants to connect, they want to join our circle of giving. I know ‘Product Philanthropy’ will be rolling off the tongues of Australians soon, I just know it. Watch this space. “Alison Covington
